View: Sacredness of the Individual Person“Since making this choice the nation has been involved in countless struggles with various religions, most of which claim a Christian basis.” There are many possible views of a country, what it should be and how it should operate. In the United States we have chosen one view, and that centers on the sacredness of the individual person. Everything else follows from that. The United States of America in choosing this view acted in continuity with the long tradition of English and Christian law that had developed over the centuries since the days of Jesus Christ. It was a bold and innovative decision. Since making this choice the nation has been involved in countless struggles with various religions, most of which claim a Christian basis. The result has been less than satisfactory as far as any of these religious expressions are concerned. But, the effort goes on. At the present moment, there are a number of issues facing the American people that involve the sacredness of the human person.
