News: Information Revolution“Today we have ready access to information of all sorts, but do not have the ability to make sense of this information. ” The world of today is considerably different from the world of yesterday. Yesterday’s world might be titled that of the industrial revolution, that of today’s world might be titled that of the information revolution. They are vastly different revolutions and vastly different world’s. Today we have ready access to information of all sorts, but do not have the ability to make sense of this information. The recent problems in the stock market are but one example. The immediate task before us to to make true use of the information that is now available. That will not be easy. So much information is suddenly available that it will take major efforts, something we are not used to, to assimilate it properly. The recent election is an example of how much information is now available to us and our inability to make good use of it. At our fingertips we hade huge amounts of information on each candidate, but most of us went through the electoral process in the way we had been accustomed to. Information is power, but in the raw state it is generally useless. It must be rendered useful. That is the task before us, and while major, it is not beyond our abilities. The people that leads the way in this effort will be the leaders through the coming centuries. |
